AnnexText – Getting started (Tutorial)
A hands-on walkthrough ("your first hour with AnnexText"). Whitepaper format, PDF-ready. Screenshots are captured according to the shot list at the end.
Goal of this tutorial
By the end you will have created a short set of minutes as a .axtext document: with a title, headings, body text and a bullet list, a footer with a page number – saved and exported as a PDF.
Step 1: Launch the app and open a document
Start AnnexText from AnnexHub. An empty document opens in the three-column layout: outline and assets on the left, the editor in the middle, the inspector on the right. Open an existing .axtext via File ▸ Open… (⌘O).
Step 2: Set the document title
In the inspector on the right, under "Document", enter the title, for example "Minutes – editorial meeting". The title is part of the .axtext snapshot and is saved with it.
Step 3: Write paragraphs and set styles
Write your text paragraph by paragraph. Add new paragraphs with the toolbar button "Add paragraph". Choose a style per paragraph – directly in the editor or in the inspector: Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, Body, Quote or Bullet. For the minutes use a Heading 1, then Body and a Bullet list with the decisions.
Step 4: Navigate via the outline
The sidebar shows one entry per paragraph with a style icon and a text preview. A click selects the paragraph – editor and inspector follow. This keeps you oriented even in longer texts.
Step 5: Find and replace
Open find via Edit ▸ Find… (⌘F). The find bar shows the match count ("2 of 5"). With ⌘G you jump to the next match, with ⇧⌘G to the previous one. To replace, use Edit ▸ Find and Replace… (⌥⌘F) – one at a time or via "Replace All".
Step 6: Set up footer and page numbers
In the inspector section "Header & Footer" enable page numbers and choose the format ("Page X" or just "X") and the position (left/center/right). Enter a header or footer text if needed. The output appears in print and PDF in the page margins.
Step 7: Save as .axtext
Save the document with File ▸ Save (⌘S). The first time, AnnexText asks for the location ("Save As…", ⌘⇧S); afterwards ⌘S saves directly. If autosave is enabled in the settings, it additionally saves silently every 30 seconds.
Step 8: Export as PDF (or print)
Via File ▸ Export… or the toolbar button "Export" you choose the format. For the finished minutes take PDF – it renders over the same path as printing, including the footer and page number. Alternatively print directly with File ▸ Print… (⌘P).
Result & next steps
You created structured minutes with a title, styles, an outline and page numbers, saved them as .axtext and exported them as a PDF. More on all features, formats and MCP automation is in the manual (docs/manuals/en/AnnexText.md) and in the authoritative feature list .
